What is the Scope of TR-I?

  • The Turkey Sustainable Tourism Criteria certification, implemented by the tourism sector across Turkey, serves as the foundation.
  • The criteria serve as basic guidelines for businesses of all sizes to become more sustainable and aim to contribute to the sustainable growth of Turkish tourism.
  • The criteria help raise awareness among Turkish society, visitors, the sector, and tourism investors about sustainable tourism principles and practices.
  • The criteria serve as a framework for effective promotion and marketing to identify sustainable tourism providers.
  • The criteria contribute to Turkey’s fulfillment of its obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal in the context of sustainable tourism and various environmental labels.
  • They establish a fundamental approach and framework for cooperation between the government, civil society, academia, and the private sector to develop sustainable tourism policies, practices, and requirements.
